Bike Tuscany

I’d like my friends to join me cycling in Tuscany. I want to charge a modest fee of £500 and collect you from either Camucia railway station or Perugia Airport - and keep things simple. There will be a variety of routes ranging from 20km (to the local bar) to 115 km (around Lake Trasimeno), with medium routes of between 30 and 70 km. The routes are also up for discussion. There are links to my Strava and Relive accounts below to give you an idea of distances and climbs. You’ll be staying at the Castello Neve, my home, and we will eat either there, in the local pizzeria, or in Cortona. If we ‘eat in’ the cost is mine- if we ‘eat out’ we will share the bill. I can take between 3 and 6 riders depending on whether you arrive alone or with a partner. There are 3 double bedrooms available. I have not decided on dates yet. I’ll follow the advice of those who are interested. Just let me know.

The Castello Neve. My home for 20 years. This is the entrance and the North Wing. It’s over 1,000 years old and showing its age; but the views are spectacular.

The Signorelli Theatre in Cortona. It is also the local cinema.

Cortona

Montone

This the dining room of the Castello. It is also my studio.

From high over Cortona you can see Lake Trasimeno in the background.

This is Syrah country. Gentle hills.

By the shore of Lake Trasimeno. The great thing about riding around the lake is that there is always a café to stop at every 30 minutes or so.

The streets of Cortona.

A few things to remember. You should make sure to take out health insurance. If you’re hurt of course the local health service will take care of you, but it is better to be safe than sorry. Bring your own helmets and high-visibility jacket with you. I will look into the hiring of bikes. If the local bike shops are asking too much (I’m sure they’ll try it on) I may ask for you to make a contribution if I can’t cover the cost. Of course you can always bring your own bike.
